Builder's son abducted, Rs.50 lakh ransom demanded

Panaji, Aug 14 (UNI) The son of a noted builder in Vasco-da-Gama city was abducted allegedly from a cafe shop in the busy Miramar area in the capital this afternoon, and a amount of Rs 50 lakh demanded for his release.

Director General of Police Neraj Kumar told UNI that the Vasco-da-Gama police had registered a case on the basis of the complaint of two of the victim Mandar's friends.

The three met at a cafe shop at Miramar beach front and Mandar (20) told them that he was going with his known friends in a car.

Later, the mother of one of his friends got the call demanding ransom from his father Deepak Surlekar, who is based in Vasco city, police said.

The first information report (FIR) had now been transfered to the Panaji police for further investigation, the DGP said.

Mandar, a 12th class dropout and a disco jockey, met his two friends to plan for anniversary celebrations of a local paper, police said.

The police also suspected the complicity of Mandar in the entire episode and called his two friends for interrogation with the Panaji Police.

''There is nothing to worry and we are on the right track,''the DGP said.
