Air passengers have miraculous escape

Chennai, Aug 14 (UNI) Over One hundred and fifty passengers and nine crew members of the Singapore-Chennai Indian Airlines flight (IC 556) had a miraculous escape after one of the tyres of the aircraft burst on the runway at the Anna International Airport here today.

Airport sources said the flight, scheduled to land here at 0940 hrs landed after a two hour delay. After landing, the aircraft was on the runway completing the landing procedure when the tyre burst.

The alert pilot managed to bring the plane to a safe halt, much to the relief of the passengers and crew.

All the passengers expressed their gratitude to the pilot and co-pilot for their timely action, the sources added.

Inquest blames pilot for Cronje plane crash

Johannesburg, Aug 14 (UNI) A complacent pilot, who ignored warnings of the lurking danger, was today held responsible for the plane crash which killed former South African captain Hansie Cronje.
