Court sought progress in flood relief scam

Patna, Aug 9 (UNI) Patna High Court today sought details of the status and progress made in the multi crore rupee flood relief scam cases so far.

While hearing the bail application of one of the prime accused of the case and former District Magistrate of Patna Gautam Goswami a single bench of the court of Mr Chandramauli Kumar Prasad asked the vigilance counsel to furnish the information about those who had been bailed out and those who were languishing in the jail in connection with the scam. The court also directed to inform about the number of chargesheet submitted and the status of the trial in the scam within a week.

S A Narayan Singh and Tuhin Shankar, counsel of Dr Goswami informed that his client was behind bars for the past 14 months whereas some of the co-accused in the case were granted bail. They said that the father and mother in law of Dr Goswami have been detected with cancer which was in the advance stage, with no one to look after them. Hence on humanitarian ground the accused may be released on bail.

Dr Goswami had been placed under suspension by the state government in connection with the scam case.
