RWAs to approach CIC over RTI implementation

New Delhi, Aug 7: Delhi's increasingly pro-active Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) are planning to approach the Central Information Commission to press for notification of a principal information officer (PIO) in the Chief Minister's Office under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The All-Delhi RWA collective URJA has also decided to press for inclusion of the power distribution company under the purview of the Act, the NGO People's Action said.

People's Action President Sanjay Kaul said he had been asked by URJA to take up the matter with the appropriate authorities and that he would seek an appointment with Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah in this regard.

A statement issued by him quoted RWA office-bearers as saying that the Act may as well be scrapped in Delhi if the CM office was kept out while subordinate offices were under its purview.

''If the CM's office is outside the ambit of RTI, what is the use of throwing us tit-bits of departmental transparency,'' Mr S P Gupta of the Old Rajendra Nagar RWA was quoted as saying.
