Narayana Murthy's services sought for K'taka's development

Mysore, July 30:  Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today sought the services of Infosys Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy for the development of the State after his retirement on August 20.

Referring to his retirement at the age of 60, Mr Kumaraswamy, speaking at the silver jubilee function of Infosys here, said ''this presented us with a great opportunity. Surely a talent like his cannot be allowed to remain untapped. It is too precious a commodity whose full potential cannot be allowed to remain unexploited...We in the State Government would like to avail of this chance and benefit from his vision, enormous experience and sincere desire to work for Karnataka.

'' On the Karnataka Vision Group on IT, headed by Mr Murthy, he said all knowledge-based industries such as IT, BT and high precision engineering, including nanotechnology-based enterprises, have a bright future in the State. ''It is my intention to use the services of Mr Murthy so that my Government can be suitably advised about addressing these aspects.'' The Chief Minister said the State had initiated preparatory work on a new venture capital fund for knowledge-based industries and it would become functional soon. He hoped that young entrepreneurs would make use of the fund.

Senior journalist V T George passes away

Kochi, July 30 (UNI) Deputy News Editor of The New Indian Express V T George (49), died at a private hospital after a brief illness here today. He is survived by wife Santha and sons Nithin and Paul. George began his career at Newstime, Hyderabad, as a Sub-Editor and later moved on to Gulf Daily News, Bahrain, as a sports journalist. In 2000, he joined the New Indian Express, Kozhikode, as Chief Sub-Editor and was promoted.....

Haryana govt to provide free education to Prince

Haldera, Kurukshetra, July 30 (UNI) The Haryana government will provide free education to Prince, the five-year-old boy of the village who was pulled out of a 60-foot-deep bore well on July 23 after a 50-hour-long ordeal. The state government will also develop Haldera as a model village. It has already given a grant of Rs two lakh to the boy's family. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda while addressing.....
