Fishermen net 70-kg catch

Published: Wednesday, July 26, 2006, 20:05 [IST]

Betul, MP, July 26 (UNI) A five-foot long 70-kg fish was netted by fishermen at Madhyam Sinchai Yojana's Sapna water pond in this district.

The fish is the largest catch ever at the pond.

Fisheries department inspector Ajay Bhargava said Sapna Matasyayog Sahkari Samiti's Babu Lal and Raju netted the fish.

Soon after the catch, a crowd gathered for a glimpse of the fish. A large number of eggs were found when the fish's stomach was cut open.

District Collector Chandrahas Dubey took serious view of the incident which took place despite a ban on fishing up to August 15 in view of rainy season -- which is breeding season for fishes.

He said action would be taken against concerned people.
