Youth killed over football match dispute in Parbhani

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, July 18 (UNI) A 25-year-old youth was brutally killed by over ten youths following a petty dispute among them while playing a football match at Vasmat town in Parbhani district, about 200 km away from here.

Police sub-inspector D S Kokate, told UNI, quoting from a complaint filed by the deceased's father Sheikh Farooq Sheikh Rauf, a group of ten youths allegedly murdered his son -- Abid Sharif Hamid Sharif -- by assaulting him with sharp weapons over a petty dispute while they were playing a football match at the play ground near a cinema theatre.

Abid succumbed to the injureis he sustained in the attack at a local government hospital at about 1630 hrs yesterday.

The Vasmat police have registered an offence against all the youths under various sections of the IPC including 302 and Section 25 of the Arms Act, the police sources said.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case, police sources added.

PANGANDARAN, Indonesia, July 18: A tsunami triggered by a strong undersea earthquake off the coast of Indonesia's Java island killed 226 people, swept away buildings and damaged hundreds of fishing boats, officials and witnesses said.News of the disaster yesterday spread panic across a region still recovering from a tsunami less than two years ago in which nearly 230,000 people were killed or reported missing, mostly in Indonesia.
