Wet spell in MP; Shekhawat's trip cancelled

Bhopal, July 18 (UNI) Entire Madhya Pradesh is experiencing showers since last night due to a low-pressure area over the state's eastern part and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's visit to Sagar, to address the Dr Hari Singh Gaur University's diamond jubilee function today, was cancelled due to inclement weather.

''The low-pressure area is in the vicinity of Jabalpur. Seoni recorded the maximum 18 cm rain,'' said Regional Meteorological Centre Director D P Dubey.

The state capital witnessed overcast skies and intermittent drizzles began since afternoon while high humidity was the order of the day.

Over the next 48 hours downpours might lash some places in Bhopal, Indore, Hoshangabad, Gwalior, Chambal, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Sagar and Rewa divisions.

Overnight precipitation figures were Harsud (17 cm) Shahdol (15 cm) Bandhana (14 cm) Tendukheda (13 cm) Betul (12 cm) Raisen (10 cm) Amarwara (nine cm) Sausar (seven cm) Katangi ( six cm) Multai, Suser and Planji (five cm each) Chhindwara and Damoh (four cm each).

Dental college students restart strike

Vijayawada, July 18 (UNI) Students of Government Dental College intensified their strike embarking on a relay fast demanding the transfer of Principal J.S.Wesely. Earlier the students called off the 13-day long agitation on June 28 after the State Government produced an order transferring the Principal to Kurnool, when a delegation of students apprised Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and Health Minister K Rosaiah about the conditions in the college. State Transport Corpns to buy 3,000 buses: Nehru

Kancheepuram, July 18 (UNI) State transport corporations in Tamil Nadu will purchase over 3,000 buses, Transport Minister K N Nehru today announced. Speaking to reporters after a review meeting here with officials, Mr Nehru said while the State Express Transport Corporation will purchase about 900 buses, the other transport undertakings will procure 2,230 new buses. The vehicles will be disabled-friendly in confirmity with the guidelines of Madras High Court. Mini buses will also be operated where.....

Kalam urges students to choose development politics as career

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today exhorted students to choose development politics as a career option, stating that the prevailing trend of 'political politics' was not good. Interacting with the students at the inauguration of the sesquicentennial (150th) celebrations of Mumbai University here, Mr Kalam said, ''You have to excel in education first and then can choose politics as a career.
