UPA soft on terrorism: Rajnath

Guwahati, July 18 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh today criticised the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for being soft on terrorism.

Talking to media persons, the BJP president, said the present Central government's response to the threat from terrorism was not up to the mark.

He rued that no counter terrorism law could be enacted in the country after the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). The BJP leader said there was no alternative to POTA to prevent terrorism.

Mr Singh said the serial blasts in Mumbai should be enough to make the government think seriously about drawing up a terrorism action plan.

He was here to chair the state party unit's ''chintan baithak'' and review party's selection of candidates for the next round of Panchayat election in the state.

The BJP leader said the party was open to consider proposal for alliance from anti-Congress and anti-Left parties for the election in Asom.
