Uma's resignation from MP Assembly accepted

Bhopal, July 18(UNI) Former Chief Minister Uma Bharti's resignation from the membership of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly was accepted on May 11, Speaker Ishwardas Rohani told the House today.

Ms Bharti represented Malehra constituency in Tikamgarh district.

On her election to the Assembly in December 2003, she became chief minister, but resigned in August 2004 after an arrest warrant was issued for her in the Hubli rioting case.

Ms Bharti was expelled from the BJP on December 5 last year when she challenged the process of electing Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan as Chief Minister. Later, she floated Bharatiya Jan Shakti and resigned from the assembly on moral grounds.

Senior freedom fighter Dhumal passes away

Kopargaon, July 18 (UNI) Senior Freedom Fighter Chandrakant Gyanba Dhumal died of old age here. He was 93. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. Mr Dhumal had undergone imprisonment for two and a half years for his participation in the 'Quit India' movement in 1942. Former union minister and MP Balasaheb Vikhe Patil and former Education Minister Shankarrao Kale have paid their tributes to the departed soul. UNI XR GB/PM PK.....

Left seek probe into Jaswant revelations

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Left parties today asked the government to order a probe into the 'revelations' pertaining to the Kandahar episode in the memoirs of senior BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, saying the people had the right to know the whole truth. The leaders of the CPI (M), CPI and Forward Bloc also demanded interrogation of the then National Security Adviser Brijesh Mishra regarding his involvement in the episode......

Sandeep, Parth Sharma lose

Chennai, July 18 (UNI) India's Sandeep Jangra and Parth Sharma were defeated in the 14th World Junior Men's Squash Championship in North Palmerston, New Zealand, today. According to a message from Indian team coach Cyrus Poncha, Sandeep and Parth who won their matches in the morning, lost to higher ranked Tom Pashley (Eng) and Simon Rosner (Ger) in the third round. Earlier in the second round matches, they moved ahead in contrasting fashion......
