Two arrested in human sacrifice case

Hubli, July 18 (UNI) A man and a woman have been arrested on the charge of sacrificing a seven-year-old boy with the hope of finding treasure at Navalur, a suburb of the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.

The boy, Nikhil, was considered lucky by his father Fakirappa Badiger as he had six fingers in a hand and the latter had a blind faith that Nikhil would lead to treasure one day. This superstitious belief resulted in the sacrifice of the boy.

Commissioner of Police Narayan Nadamani told UNI today that the boy was kidnapped by his own uncle Doddappa Badiger and two others on July five with the help of one Girijawwa Ganachari, who called the boy to her house and sounded the accused. Doddappa Badiger and one Basappa Bhairppanavar sacrificed the boy and threw the body on the railway tracks near the suburb on July eight.

The arrested -- Girjawwa Ganachari and Doddappa Badiger -- have confessed to the crime, while search was on for Bhairappanavar, he said.
