Tokyo stocks fall on brokerages after long weekend

TOKYO, July 18 (Reuters) The Nikkei average fell 0.76 percent on Tuesday, with shares of brokerages such as Nomura Holdings Inc.

declining amid concerns about a worsening market outlook after recent falls in U.S. stocks.

The Tokyo stock market resumed trading on Tuesday after being closed for a national holiday on Monday.

The Nikkei was down 98.04 points at 14,747.20 as of 0005 GMT, extending falls into a fifth straight session. The TOPIX index lost 1 percent to 1,506.55.

PANGANDARAN, Indonesia, July 18: A tsunami triggered by a strong undersea earthquake off the coast of Indonesia's Java island killed 226 people, swept away buildings and damaged hundreds of fishing boats, officials and witnesses said.News of the disaster yesterday spread panic across a region still recovering from a tsunami less than two years ago in which nearly 230,000 people were killed or reported missing, mostly in Indonesia. Nikkei falls on West Asia tensions, Canon down
