New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the success of 2010 Commonwealth Games will depend on effective coordination between all agencies concerned as multiplicity of authorities in the city could work as a speed-breaker.
Ms Dikshit was speaking at a conference organised by PHDCCI on 'Preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010: Opportunities and Role for Business'.
Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar and number of senior officers of Union and State Governments were present on the occasion.
Ms Dikshit called upon all agencies concerned to pull up their socks to complete all preparations well in time.
Seven new five star hotels, three new bus terminals, 25 flyovers would come up in the capital before commencement of the Commonwealth Games.
The games villages would be developed to accommodate around 8500 sportspersons and officials.
While mentioning that around five lakh people migrated to Delhi annual, Ms Dikshit reiterated that the influx of people in such a big way had been negating planned development.
Delhi government was committed to developing Delhi as a world-class city by providing better and smooth roads, parking facilities and dependable public transport system and sufficient supply of power and water.
She stressed the need for enforcement of CNG norms in entire NCR region just on the lines of Delhi to make National Capital pollution-free.
She added that there was a big challenge before Delhi to host an international event after Asiad 1982. She called upon PHDCCI to render constructive cooperation in making available trained volunteers during the games.
DTTDC Chairman Sanat Kaul disclosed that Delhi Tourism would construct number of tourist centres on Build Operate Transfer basis.
He added that government would like to help in installating attractive signages to present a better picture of the capital.
Principal Secretary (Power) Rakesh Mehta elaborated efforts being done to increase power supply during the games.
He added that the demand during the Commonwealth Games was expected to be around 5000 to 6000 MW for which a power plant of 2000 MW capacity was being commissioned in Chhatishgarh whereas tie-up for another 1500 MW power had also been ensured.
