Shekhawat's Sagar visit cancelled

Bhopal, July 18 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's scheduled visit to Sagar to address Dr Hari Singh Gaur University's diamond jubilee function today was cancelled due to bad weather.

''The Helicopter could not take off from Sagar due to heavy rains'', Jabalpur Collector Sanjay Dube said.

Mr Shekhawat was scheduled to reach Jabalpur by a special aircraft and then to proceed to Sagar by helicopter.

Governor Balram Jakhar also did not proceed to Sagar due to unavoidable reasons.

Noted educationist and jurist Dr Hari Singh Gaur had established the University of Sagar, the 16th university in undivided India, with his life-time saving of over Rs two crore in 1946 and he became its founder Vice Chancellor.

Its library, at present having over three lakh books, was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

About 34 students and teachers of Sagar University later became vice chancellors of different universities.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister S S Chouhan and PWD Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, who reached Jabalpur to receive Mr Shekhawat, later left for Sagar by road.
