PTC net profit up 6% for Q1FY07

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) PTC India, formerly known as Power Trading Corporation of India, today registered a 6 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 12.01 crore for the first quarter ended on June 30,2006 as against Rs 11.31 crore in the same period of the last fiscal.

The company posted 136 per cent growth in its total income at Rs 1049.97 crore as against Rs 443.97 for the corresponding quarter last year.

PTC is a public-private partnership initiated by the Indian government for developing a commercially vibrant power market in the country.

Woman poisons ten members of family

Hubli, July 18 (UNI) Frustrated with petty quarrels in the family, a housewife has allegedly poisoned ten members of the family at Huilgol village in Gadag district of Karnataka. Police said today that earlier it was suspected that all the ten members of the family took ill after they ate cucumber and drank contaminated water from a pond in their fields. However, on investigation, it was concluded by the police that it was a case.....

Tension in Hubli

Hubli, July 18 (UNI) Tension prevailed for some time in Gokul road area here when Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists mistook the Hubli-Dharwad City Municipal Corporation's (HDMC) operation of catching stray cattle in the city. The trouble started when two VHP activists objected to the way the operation was carried out by HDMC personnel and one of the personnel assaulted the activists. Other VHP activists rushed to the rescue of their counterparts in large numbers......
