Pilgrims looted in Bihar

Gaya, July 18 (UNI) Armed criminals looted cash and valuables worth Rs 2.5 lakhs from Deoghar bound pilgrims at Gaya-Nawada road near Karjara village under Vajirganj police station in Gaya district late last night.

Police said today that around 12 criminals swooped on Gaya-Nawada road near Karjara village and attacked seven vehicles crowded with pilgrims, who were on way to attend Shrawani Mela at Deoghar in Jharkhand.

Pilgrims were stripped off cash, mobile phones, jewelleries and other valuables at gun point by the robbers, police added.

Some pilgrims, who tried to resist the robbers, beaten up.

French evacuees arrive in Cyprus from Lebanon

LARNACA, Cyprus, July 18 (Reuters) France today evacuated some 900 people from Lebanon to Cyprus in an operation cut short because of security concerns in Beirut. The 1,300-capacity Greek ferry Ierapetra sailed into Larnaca harbour on the Mediterranean island carrying some 300 less people than authorities had hoped it would bring. ''It was supposed to bring back 1,260 people but with night falling we had to close the doors (in Beirut),'' a French diplomat told.....

NEW YORK, July 18 (Reuters) Continuous monitoring-guided insulin adjustment appears to be no more effective than intermittent fingerstick monitoring in achieving control of blood sugar, or blood ''glucose,'' in certain children with type 1 diabetes, Australian researchers report in the journal Diabetes Care. Suspected LTTE ambush kills 1, wounds 6
