Pilgrims looted in Bihar

Gaya, July 18 (UNI) Armed criminals looted cash and valuables worth Rs 2.5 lakhs from Deoghar bound pilgrims at Gaya-Nawada road near Karjara village under Vajirganj police station in Gaya district late last night.

Police said today that around 12 criminals swooped on Gaya-Nawada road near Karjara village and attacked seven vehicles crowded with pilgrims, who were on way to attend Shrawani Mela at Deoghar in Jharkhand.

Pilgrims were stripped off cash, mobile phones, jewelleries and other valuables at gun point by the robbers, police added.

Some pilgrims, who tried to resist the robbers, beaten up.

Centre allocates Rs 936 cr for EGS

Bhopal, July 18: The Centre has allocated Rs 936.17 crore to Madhya Pradesh till June this year under the rural employment guarantee scheme, the Assembly was informed today.The state's allocation under REGS during the same period this year was Rs 104.01 crore, Panchayat Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told Mr Ajay Singh in a written reply. Srinagar, July 18 (UNI) The work on 83.90 km prestigious Mughal Road project, connecting Poonch and Doda with the Kashmir valley, is going on full swing. French evacuees arrive in Cyprus from Lebanon

LARNACA, Cyprus, July 18 (Reuters) France today evacuated some 900 people from Lebanon to Cyprus in an operation cut short because of security concerns in Beirut. The 1,300-capacity Greek ferry Ierapetra sailed into Larnaca harbour on the Mediterranean island carrying some 300 less people than authorities had hoped it would bring. ''It was supposed to bring back 1,260 people but with night falling we had to close the doors (in Beirut),'' a French diplomat told.....
