Orissa and Bengal collect full points

Chandigarh, Jul 18 (UNI) Last year's runners-up Orissa and title aspirants West Bengal began their campaign in Group II quarter-final league with effortless victories over their respective rivals in the third Junior Girls Under-17 Football Tournament here today.

West Bengal collected full three points outplaying Uttar Pradesh 4-0 while Orissa blanked Tripura an identical margin. West Bengal's scorers were Sujata Patil (30th), Rojina Khaton (54th), Kalpana Roy (65th) and Srabani Bairagi (75th). West Bengal also muffed an opportunity when Rojina Khaton's weak spotkick was saved by Uttar Pradesh goalkeeper Ankita Kamari.

Jhele Munda starred in Orissa's 4-0 triumph over Tripura as the Orissa striker booted home two goals in the 25th and 79th minutes.

Srimote Samal (35th) and Preyenka Sahoo (70th) contributed one goal each for their team against Tripura who looked a disjointed lot.

West Bengal players combined well and kept on pressure but it must go to the credit of Uttar Pradesh to contain the first-half score to 1-0.

Immediately after resumption the Uttar Pradesh mounted pressure and could have neutralised the lead but they failed convert the chances which came their way. They had a chance to restore parity in the 49th minute. However, West Bengal goalkeeper Chhabita made a good collected of a powerful long ranger by Pinky Sharma.

After conceding second goal in the 54th minute, Uttar Pradesh had another good chance to score but Kahkashan Bano delayed the shot and she was dispossessed by the West Bengal defenders.
