Order on Sujata Rajan's bail plea on July 26

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Judge, Abhay Thipsay would pronounce the judgement in the Sujata Rajan bail plea on July 26.

The special court judge today completed the hearing and said the order would be given on July 26.

Earlier, last month, Sujata Rajan had filed bail applications on the basis of merit. Her counsel had prayed that investigations on most charges have been completed and there was no need for further custody and, hence, she be released on bail.

Sujata, wife of gangster Chota Rajan, was arrested by the police last November for allegedly trying to extort Rs 18 lakh from a builder at Chembur and for possesion of unaccounted wealth.

She was charged under MCOCA Act after the police recorded conversations between her and Chota Rajan on matters pertaining to extortion and other havala transactions.

Monsoon becomes weak over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 18 (UNI) The South West Monsoon became weak over Kerala and Lakswadeep, with most places receiving isolated heavy rains. No deaths were reported, but the coastal areas continued to be under the threat of erosion as the sea continued to be rough with strong winds. The coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kozhikode were under severe threat. People who were sheltered in the relief camps started to return to their homes.....

More water discharged from KRS dam

Mysore, July 18 (UNI) Authorities at the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir across river Cauvery near here today increased the discharge from the dam to the river to 38,724 cusecs. The water level at the reservoir was maintained at 124.5 ft as against the full capacity of 124.80 ft. The inflow was 23,529 cusecs following copious rains in the catchment areas in Kodagu district. Meanwhile, the combined outflow of both KRS and Kabini had crossed over.....

Vijaya Bank issues tier-II bonds worth Rs 250 crore

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Vijaya Bank has proposed to issue tier-II bonds aggregating Rs 250 crore, shortly for a tenor of 120 months at a coupon rate of 9.25 per cent annually. Informing the BSE, the bank said the face value of the bond is Rs 10 lakh each. The minimum investment shall be five bonds, or Rs 50 lakh and in multiples of one bond or Rs 10 lakh.
