Notice to MCD on construction of illegal structures

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today issued a notice to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) on a PIL seeking demolition of an illegal structure which is under construction in Rajput Mohalla.

A division bench headed by acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain asked the MCD to file a reply by July 21 to the petition seeking court's direction for removal of the unauthorised building.

The petition raised some pertinent questions in the light of recently enacted Delhi Laws (Special provisions), 2006 such as: Can anyone raise some illegal structures now? What will happen after a year when the moratorium would come to an end? Can the civic authorities demolish the illegal structures built after the enactment of the Act? Meanwhile, another bench headed by Justice Ravinder Bhat restrained the DDA from demolishing the unauthorised colony on the banks of river Yamuna near Okhla, DND Flyover and Kalindikunj.

The matter was referred to Justice Usha Mehra Committee to interpret the order pronounced earlier to remove all illegal structures from the banks within 300 meters of the river edge.

The Flood Forecasting department of the Delhi Government was directed to carry out proper measurement of the river edge so as to remove the illegal structures.
