New formula for compounding tax on mustard oil

Lucknow, July 18 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh today announced a new formula for compounding tax on mustard oil units and oil cakes in the state during the current fiscal, which has been hiked by 30 per cent this year.

The state cabinet said the new compounding system would only be implemented if the revenue generated by it crosses Rs 7.50 crore in the current fiscal.

At present, there are 624 mustard oil units in UP.

State chief secretary N C Bajpayee said the government was expected to collect an additional revenue of Rs four crore this year.

In 2005-06, UP collected Rs 5.73 crore tax on mustard oil and oil cakes.

Lucknow, July 18 (UNI) Six western districts of Uttar Pradesh have witnessed an alarming disparity in the gender ratio. Kochi, July 18 (UNI) The investigators questioning the crew members of the grounded Taiwanese vessel ''Isabel III'' in Lakshadweep have not been able to make much headway due to language problems and are going to seek the help of interpreters, top police officials said. A senior officer of the Lakshadweep Police told UNI that only one of the 33 crew members could speak broken English while the others did not know English.....

S Korea wants to strip stem cell scientist of medal

SEOUL, July 18 (Reuters) South Korea plans to strip disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk and six of his collaborators of state medals for their once heralded and now debunked work on stem cell studies, the prime minister's office said today. Hwang, once hailed as a hero in South Korea, is on trial on charges of fraud, embezzlement and violating a bioethics law.
