Mumbai blasts prompt PM to declare 'war on terror'

On Board Air India One, July 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today clarified he had started using the expression ''war against terror'' after the July 11 Mumbai blasts because of the enormity of the attack.

Replying to a question why he had replaced the term ''fight against terror'' with ''war'' against the menace, Dr Singh told reporters that the Mumbai attacks were an enormous tragedy, which had left 200 people dead and 800 injured.

''This was an assault we have to face with full determination,'' he said while returning from the G8 meeting in St Petersburg.
