Monsoon becomes weak over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 18 (UNI) The South West Monsoon became weak over Kerala and Lakswadeep, with most places receiving isolated heavy rains.

No deaths were reported, but the coastal areas continued to be under the threat of erosion as the sea continued to be rough with strong winds. The coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Kozhikode were under severe threat.

People who were sheltered in the relief camps started to return to their homes as the water levels receded.

However, it was estimated that about 800 people were still in the relief camps across the state.

Meanwhile, the Local Met office here warned of strong onshore winds from the westerly direction with a speed of 45-55 Kmph along Kerala coast and over lakshwadeep.

The highest rainfall of eight cm was recorded at Munnar. While Punnalur received five cm rainfall, Chenganur recorded four cm.

Palakkad, Mannarkad, Kottayam and Thiruvalla received three cm rainfall.

State Govt asked to make statement on fresh Bhiwandi violence

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar today directed the State Government to make a statement on reports of fresh violence in Bhiwandi against the local police.
