Markets retreat into red after strong opening

Mumbai, July 18: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensex today opened in the green by 43 points at 10,336.62 points on the short-lived investors' buying sentiments.

However, the Sensex is currently trading at 10,243.53, which is 49 points below the previous close of 10,293.22. It has undergone strong volatility touching a low of 10,168 points and a high of 10,406.43.

All the Asian benchmark indices including Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia are trading down.

Even all the BSE sectoral indices except Teck, IT and HC are trading in the red.

Top gainers are Ranbaxy, Wipro, Bharti, HLL and ONGC all up between 0.81 to 1.92 per cent.

Major losers are Reliance Industries, Reliance Communications, ACC and Gujarat Ambuja, all down between 2.35 to 2.91 per cent.

Maoist linkman held

Purulia, Jul 18: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel last night arrested a Maoist linkman from Bakdoba Village in Belpahari under West Midnapore district. Congress demands MP Govt's dismissal

Bhopal, July 18 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has submitted a memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam demanding immediate dismissal of the BJP Government in view of alleged political instability, water and power crisis, deterioration law and order situation and the government's failure to fulfil the BJP's election promises. Commercial Tax check post inspector suspended

Badwani, MP, July 18 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Commercial Tax Commissioner has suspended an inspector posted at Gawadi-based commercial tax check post on the charge of alleged irregularities, official source said today. Deputy Commissioner (Commercial Tax) M K Bagga and Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) N Shakyavar said an inspector, who was posted seven months back, was suspended, while seven inspectors were transferred.
