Lecturers to go on mass casual leave

Pondicherry, July 18 (UNI): The Pondicherry state government lecturers association (higher secondary) has threatened to go on mass casual leave from August 7 to press their demands .

The association, in a release here today, pointed out that several demands, including the lecturers be clasified as gazetted officers, the teacher-students ratio be brought down to 1:40, reduction in the work load of the lecturers, among other things, were brought to the notice of the government. However, no steps were taken to redress their grievances. Since, the lecturers were taking classes for Plus one and Plus two, which would affect the students they had refrained from organising agitations.

Left with no option than to organise agitations, the 600 lecturers in 48 schools would organise a demonstration in front of the education department and observe a fast in front of the Legislative Assembly on July 27 the opening day of the budget session and also would go on mass casual leave from August seven.

Meanwhile, the indefinite strike by the joint action committee of the electricity department employees association entered the second day today. However,no major power disruption was reported from anywhere.

They were demanding the removal of the pay anomalies in the fifth pay commission recommendations.

Five missing in boat capsize in Teesta

Coochbehar, Jul 18: At least five people went missing after a country boat capsized in swelling Teesta in West Bengal's remote Coochbehar district today.District Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar said efforts were on to trace the missing people. 12000 Indians in Lebanon asked to keep papers ready
