K'taka Council rejects Appropriation Bill 2006

Bangalore, July 18 (UNI) The Karnataka Legislative Council today rejected the Appropriation Bill 2006, which was passed by the Assembly yesterday, in a voice vote.

The Bill, amounting to Rs 45,000 crore towards demand for grants for various departments for the financial year, was defeated when it was put to voice vote by Council Officiating Chairman Sachidananda Khot.

As none of the members pressed for division of votes, the Chairman declared the Bill as defeated and adjourned the House to tomorrow amid confusion.

Yesterday, Karnataka Assembly Speaker Krishna guillotined the Karnataka Appropriation (Number three) Bill, amidst dharna and pandemonium by the Opposition parties, demanding that suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Siddaramaiah be allowed to make a statement before resigning his seat. Later, the Bill was passed by voice vote.
