Indians slip in latest Golf Rankings

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Missing the cut at the Scottish Open last week saw Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa slip down in the latest Official Golf Rankings.

While Jeev (1.09) has slipped four places to 148th, Randhawa is down two spots to 161st with 1.01 average points. Both of them fell by the wayside in the 2.4 million pound event in which Shiv Kapur finished tied 60th.

Shiv (0.91), who will be the lone Indian contender in The Open Championship this week at the Royal Liverpool, has moved up one place to 175th.

Jeev and Randhawa had earlier failed in their attempts to qualify for the prestigious event. However, both of them remain the two highest ranked Indians in the list.

Meanwhile, despite his relatively good show in the last John Deere Classic, Arjun Atwal (0.88) has slipped seven places to 184th.

At the top, Tiger Woods continues to reign supreme with 16.19 average points followed by Phil Mickelson (9.79) and Fijian Vijay Singh (8.43).

South African Retief Goosen (6.93) and American Jim Furyk (6.90) are fourth and fifth respectively.

Sania-Marta pair enters second round of Cincinnati Open

Cincinnati, Ohio, July 18 (UNI) Sania Mirza and her Polish partner Marta Domachowska sailed into the second round with a facile 6-4, 6-3 win over the South African-Venezuelan pair of Natalie Grandin and Milagros Sequera in the 175,000 dollar Cincinnati Open here. The third seed Indo-Polish pair will now take on the unseeded pair of Uzbek Varvara Lepchenko and Chinese Meng Yuan, who beat the Russian-Georgian duo of Vasilisa Bardina and Salome Devidze. Former Indian footballer Sathyan killed in mishap

Chennai, Jul 18 (UNI) Former India football captain V P Sathyan died here today after being run over by a train. Police said, the 35 year-old Sathyan, who originally hails from Kerala, was run over by the Kanyakumari-Chennai Egmore Express at the suburban Pallavaram railway station. Sathyan, a talented deep defender, who was also the captain of the Indian team some years ago, was crossing the track without knowing that the speeding train was approaching......
