Heavy rains claim nine lives in Nagpur

Nagpur, July 18 (UNI) The torrential rains that lashed the city as well as the entire Vidarbha region yesterday have claimed nine lives, including three women, while five people were injured in Nagpur, according to reports reaching at the different police stations here.

Reports said three persons, including a man and his two sons were killed when a compound wall of the rural hospital at Hingana, near here, collapsed on a hut last night. Five people were injured in the mishap.

The deceased have been identified as Shekhar Ganapat Khandare (45) and his two sons Rahul Khandare (11) and Ajay khandare (9).

Three people were killed when a compound wall of the Priyadarshani engineering college at Wanadongari in MIDC area collapsed on a hut this morning.

They deceased were identified as -- Shanta Mansingh Waghade (35), Savita Mansingh Waghade (6) and Vinod Mansingh Waghade (9).

In the third incident, three people - Nuri Gandhi Netam (25), Gajanan Sunil Uike (10) and Namika Sunil Uike (3) were washed away this morning in a nallah near their house at Ajit layout in Wanadongari in MIDC. Their bodies were recovered some distance away from their residence.

Wool Technology Mission to be set up

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) The Government is planning to set up a Wool Technology Mission to increase wool quality and production in the country. Stating this, Union Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela told the Parliamentary consultative committee of his ministry here today that the Wool Technology Mission would require the active support of the state governments. The mission would be set up in association with the Department of Animal Husbandry. The Minister urged the committee members.....

Monsoon turns weak in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, July 18 (UNI) A dry spell continued in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh as monsoon turned weak in the area even as rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh today. Hot and humid weather conditions persisted at most places in the plains following erratic monsoon in the region. Even as lull in rainfall activity in Punjab and Haryana continued, certain areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kullu and Sirmour districts, received moderate downpour overnight. Pandoh recorded.....
