Dental college students restart strike

Vijayawada, July 18 (UNI) Students of Government Dental College intensified their strike embarking on a relay fast demanding the transfer of Principal J.S.Wesely.

Earlier the students called off the 13-day long agitation on June 28 after the State Government produced an order transferring the Principal to Kurnool, when a delegation of students apprised Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and Health Minister K Rosaiah about the conditions in the college. But the Principal was back to the office on July one after getting a stay order from the administrative tribunal.

The students alleged that the Principal after reinstatement continued harassing them. Meanwhile, Murali Krishna, President, Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association Dental Wing told newsmen that the Principal was threatening the striking students.

He urged the government to intervene and take necessary steps for getting the stay order revoked from the tribunal.

Mumbai cabs to install electronic meters

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Maharashtra Minister of State for Transport Dharmarao Baba Atram today said the 55,000 taxis in Mumbai will install electronic meters within a year. Making a statement on a calling attention notice by Madhu Chavan (BJP) and others, Mr Atram said necessary amendments in law will be made to facilitate installation of the electronic meters. UCO bank to have representative office in China

New Delhi, Jul 18: UCO Bank today said it will open it's fifth representative office in Guangzhou in China by the year-end.''We have got the permission from the Reserve Bank of India, and are waiting for clearance from China's regulatory authority.The branch will be up by the end of this fiscal,'' UCO Bank Executive Director S A Bhatt told reporters here.The bank currently has four overseas offices in Hong Kong and Singapore.Speaking about expansion.....

India, Ecuador to boost coop, agree on UN reforms

New Delhi, Jul 18: India and Ecuador today agreed to strengthen cooperation in various sectors including energy, pharmaceuticals and trade and expressed commitment to UN Security Council (UNSC) reforms and South-South Cooperation.The two countries also signed four pacts including for cooperation between their respective Foreign Services Institutes, ''gainful employment'' of dependents of embassy staff, boosting educational and cultural ties and exemption of visa requirement for diplomatic and official passport holders.
