Cop arrested on gambling charge

Bellary, Karnataka, July 18 (UNI) Police arrested eight people, including a police constable, on the charge of gambling and recovered stake money from them, in Car street here today.

Police said that during a raid on a lodge, they found Anti-Dacoit Squad Constable Suresh and seven others gambling and effected the arrest.

District Additional Superintendent of Police C Rajappa said he would write to the Anti-Dacoity Squad in Bangalore to initiate punitive action against Suresh for his irresponsible behaviour.

Teachers to go on token strike on Aug 21

Kozhikode, July 18 (UNI) As many as 8,000 higher secondary school teachers in Kerala would go on a token strike on August 17 to press their oustanding demands, including modification of revised pay scale. In a statement here today, Federation of Higher Secondary Teachers Association (FHSTA) chirman Joshy Antony said the teachers would also observe July 21 as "HS teachers' privilege day."
