CITU warns of launching country-wide agitation

Ranchi, Jul 18 (UNI) The Centre of Indian Trade Union have alleged that many court verdicts were against the labourers' interest and urged the Centre to take steps to contain such tendency.

The CITU warned of launching country-wide agitation if their request was not paid heed to.

CITU president and senior Leftist leader M K Pandhe told newspersons here yesterday that many Apex Court pronouncements seemed to be favouring globalisation policy which was against the labourer's interest.

Mr Pandhe, who was here to attend the four-day national confederation of CITU, referred to the recent Supreme Court verdict that said no compensation should be given if any labour died of heart attack while on duty.

Earler also, the court imposed ban on strike and procession, he said adding the judgement regarding removal of contractual labourers and providing gratuity to teachers was also not favourable to the concerned parties.

He said there were instances that the court had revised its earlier decisions and hoped that the points raised by the union would be considered again by the court for persual keeping in mind the labourer's interests.

One arrested at NSCBI airport for tampering with passport

Kolkata, July 18 (UNI) Emigration authorities at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport detained an Indian passport holder Mohammed Rabbani, a resident of Khiderpore here for tampering with his passport. Officials told UNI that Rabbani was tryuing to board Bangladesh flight ''Biman'' to Dhaka en route to Hong Kong. Young couple found dead in mysterious circumstances in A'bad
