Car bomb strikes near Iraqi Shi'ite shrine

KUFA, Iraq, July 18: A car bomb exploded near a crowded market that is also next to a Shi'ite Muslim shrine in the southern Iraqi city of Kufa today, causing unknown casualties, police and witnesses said.

Policemen who arrived in the scene were pelted with rocks by angry supporters of a radical Shi'ite cleric, who has followers in the city, a Reuters witness said. Police fired shots in the air to disperse the crowds, and the Reuters witness saw at least two wounded from the shooting.

Two killed in bus-lorry collision, 41 hurt

Kozhikode, July 18 (UNI) Two persons were killed and 41 injured, three of them seriously, when a mini lorry collided with a bus in the district early today. The accident occurred when the private bus coming from Kanniparamba collided with the fish laden mini lorry at Cheroopa around 0830 hrs. Police identified the deceased as Ali and Mayin, who were in the lorry. The injured were taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, police added. UNI PCH DKB.....

Woman killed by Metro train

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) A woman was killed at Chandni Chowk Metro underground station this morning when she 'jumped' onto the track and was hit by a train.
