BJP condemns proposal of Muslim state in India

New Delhi, Jul 18: The Bharatiya Janata Party today strongly condemned UP Minister Azam Khan's proposal for a separate state for Muslims within the country.

Talking to newspersons, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was another effort to divide the nation. Mr Khan is a minister in the Mulayam Singh Government in Uttar Pradesh and the Chief Minister must clarify whether he endorsed the statement.

The 1947 partition is a closed chapter. Now Pakistan is a sovereign state. It is suprising that in India, a political party is talking about a Muslim state. The BJP will thwart all such efforts.

"We condemn religion based politics," he added.

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Rahul Dravid can well be the second cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar to win the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award after the BCCI nominated the Team India captain for country's highest sports award. BCCI has also nominated emerging allrounder Irfan Pathan and dashing southpaw Yuvraj Singh for the Arjuna award for the year 2005-06.
