Bengal express solidarity with Mumbai, Srinagar blast victims

Kolkata, July 18 (UNI) Thousands of Kolkatans today joined the rest of the nation in paying homage to the victims of 7/11 Mumbai and Srinagar serial bomb blasts.

Thousands of people, including women and children belonging to all walks of life, assembled in front of the famous Victoria Memorial and along the Ganges on Strand road this evening.

Carrying anti-terrorism placards, people were seen lighting candles to express solidarity with the blast victims.

On the Strand road, people formed a 1.5 km long human chain, stretching from Outram ghat to the Millennium Park.

In both places people also observed a two-minute silence in memory of the blast victims.

Incidentally, apart from over 200 people killed in the multiple train blasts, at least eight tourists including seven from Kolkata had lost their lives in serial granade attacks in Srinagar the same day.

Hospitals, too, pay homage to 7/11 victims

Mumbai, July 18 (UNI) Hospitals across the city also joined the two-minutes silence in memory of those dead and injured in last Tuesday's terror attacks on suburban trains. Dr Neelima Shersagar, Dean of the King Edwards Memorial (KEM) hospital told UNI that doctors and other staff at the hospital observed silence as mark of respect. BJP leader demands review of anti-naxal strategy

Raipur, July 18 (UNI) BJP leader and former Union minister Arvind Netam today demanded a review of 'Salwa Judum' -- an ongoing anti-naxal campaign in Bastar -- saying that innocent tribals were being targeted since the movement began a year back. Netam blames security lapse for Errabor carnage

Raipur, July 18 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam today alleged that security personnel failed to perform their duty when naxals stormed Errabor relief camp, killing 33 people and injuring scores in the yesterday morning.
