Basketball has bright future in India: Garnett

Bangalore, July 18 (UNI) Basketball can be further popularised in India as its youth are passionate about the game, feels nine-time NBA All Star Kevin Garnett.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the special 'KG Corner' at the Adidas flagship Sports Performance Centre here last night, he said the best way to master the game was to ''practice, practice and practice.'' He said ''I know Asians do not have great height, but it is not the only thing that makes a basketballer a star. What you need is passion and keenness to master the basics and Indian kids have plenty of it. Cricket is everything for Indians at present. However, basketball will gain a prime place in the near future,'' he added.

The Minnesota Timberwolves forward is on a three-day promotional tour of India just after completing his China visit three days ago.

''I am excited and honoured to team up with Adidas for a tour of India. Basketball is a sport very near to my heart and I feel that the sport needs to be encouraged among youngsters in all countries.'' The Bangalore leg of the tour is the culmination of Garnett's three city tour of India. He had visited New Delhi and Agra in the last two days.
