Asom govt announces DA hike by 7 per cent

Guwahati, July 18 (UNI) The Asom government has hiked the Dearness Allowance (DA) for its five lakh employees by 7 per cent with effect from this month.

With this hike, the DA had come to 74 per cent, a release issued here said.

The decision was conveyed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to representatives of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) at a meeting here today as per his announcement in the current budget session speech earlier.

The DA arrears starting this month would be paid to the employees in cash on the eve of Durga Puja.

The meeting resolved to constitute a secretary-level committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, to propose a suitable policy within the next three months for fresh appointments to ease the unemployment scenario of the state.

On the issue of time scale promotion, Mr Gogoi asked the SAKP to examine the Subhash Das Commission report and provide its feedback within two months.

Several other issues like parity of pay with Central government employees, raising of retirement age, framing of service rules for all departments and regularization of jobs of remaining casual and fixed pay employees were also taken up for discussion, the release said.

State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Chief Secreatry S Kabilan, other important officials, SAKP president Pradip Bora and secretary general Bashab Kalita attended the meeting, the release added.
