Asom gas cracker's registered office should be in Asom: MP

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) AGP MP from Dibrugarh Sarbananda Sonowal today urged the Government that the registered and head office of the long pending Asom Gas Cracker project should be set up within the territorial boundary of Asom.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Sonowal said the Government should follow the global practice of having the registered as well as the head office near the production site.

He said the State had fought for securing this project for the past 21 years and when the time has come some quarters were making efforts to take away the registered as well as the head office to some other State at the cost of Asom.

He said this move of the Centre was not acceptable to the people of the State.

He regretted that despite several statements and policy decisions from the Centre directing the Ministries as well as the Public Sector Undertakings to invest ten per cent of their income in Asom, oil sector companies which are earning huge amounts from this State were investing just to the tune of around 0.7 per cent of their earnings.

Responding to questions on Asom's tea gardens plight, Mr Sonowal said he had already taken up the matter with the concerned Ministries but none of the Central Ministries had shown any concern in this matter. Rather they had expressed their inability to help in this matter as it was a State subject, Mr Sonowal added.
