Around four lakh illegal electric connections in J

Jammu, July 18 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Power, Nawang Rigzin Jora hassaid the officials, including engineers and junior Engineer, of electricity department would also be hold guilty for power theft in their areas.

Talking to media persons yesterday he said the department has started initiatives against all those who are involved in power theft in the entire state. There are more than 15 lakh consumers in the state but we have registered only 11 to 12 lakh consumers as around four lakh people using electricity illegally.

Minister said the government has been facing acute power shortage, as the revenue target of power supply is not rational resulting in pilferage of power. As a result of which, state has been unable to purchase the required power from Northern Grid, he added.

Reacting to the queries of the consumers regarding the installation of e-meters, the Minister said a target has been fixed for all the districts in the state for E-metering and revenue realisation and any trailing will be seriously viewed and the concerned officers would be held sole responsible for not adhering to the guidelines.

He said to avoid the power theft the department working on the installation of meter and fully meter-based connection in major cities like Jammu and Srinagar would be provided till October this year.

Youth killed over football match dispute in Parbhani

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, July 18 (UNI) A 25-year-old youth was brutally killed by over ten youths following a petty dispute among them while playing a football match at Vasmat town in Parbhani district, about 200 km away from here. Police sub-inspector D S Kokate, told UNI, quoting from a complaint filed by the deceased's father Sheikh Farooq Sheikh Rauf, a group of ten youths allegedly murdered his son -- Abid Sharif Hamid Sharif -- by assaulting him.....

Tokyo stocks fall on brokerages after long weekend

TOKYO, July 18 (Reuters) The Nikkei average fell 0.76 percent on Tuesday, with shares of brokerages such as Nomura Holdings Inc. declining amid concerns about a worsening market outlook after recent falls in U.S. stocks. The Tokyo stock market resumed trading on Tuesday after being closed for a national holiday on Monday. Novelist Mickey Spillane dies at 88

MIAMI, July 18 (Reuters) Mystery writer Mickey Spillane, who created the tough-guy private eye Mike Hammer, died at his South Carolina home at age 88, a funeral home official said. The cause of death was not immediately announced. ''Mr. Spillane died yester morning at his home here. His family was with him,'' said Brian Edgerton, funeral director at the Goldfinch Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Born Frank Morrison Spillane on March 9, 1918,.....
