Army officials to be penalised for irregularities in procurement

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Penal proceedings have been ordered against two General officers and eight other officers of the army in connection with alleged irregularities in procurement of certain items of dry ration.

GOC-in-C, Western Command, Lt Gen Daljit Singh has directed disciplinary action against one General, five other officers and administrative action against one General and three other officers, which will be initiated soon, according to an official release here.

The action came on the report of a court of inquiry, which was probing the alleged irregularities, submitted recently, revealing omissions/lapses in the functioning and discharge of duties by various functionaries.

PM non-commital on OoP; Parliament to discuss

On Board Air India One, July 18: Choosing to remain non-commital on the stand the government plans to take on the office-of-profit controversy, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the relevant Bill, returned by the President without assent, would be discussed in Parliament again.''In due course of time, we will go to Parliament which would discuss the issue in the light of the President's observations,'' Dr Singh told reporters while returning to Delhi from the G8 summit at St Petersburg......

All WTO members in favour of flexibility: PM

Moscow sends foreign minister to W Asia, evacuates Russians

Moscow, July 18 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is today sending his Deputy Alexander Saltanov to West Asia to search for ways to end bloodshed and violence between Israel and Lebanon as well as between Israel and Palestine.
