AP govt to strengthen SPF, SIB, Counter Intelligence

Hyderabad, July 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh government today decided to strengthen Special Protection Force (SPF), State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and Counter Intelligence to curb militant activities in the state.

Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today reviewed the law and order situation in the state with Home Minister K Jana Reddy, Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen and other senior police officials.

Speaking to reporters here after the meeting the Home Minister said, ''to maintain law and order more effectively in the state the government has decided to increase the strength of police in important agencies''.

In the first phase, 2000 personnel would be added in SPF, 100 in SIB and 100 in Counter Intelligence, he added.

Asked about any Hyderabad link in the recent Mumbai serial blasts, he said it was confirmed that the Mumbai blasts were in no way related to Hyderabad.

The Home Minister said that the state also condemned the Chattisgarh naxal attack. The state government is taking all steps to curb the activities of militant groups.

Referring to Krushi Bank scam, Mr Reddy said the police were investigating into the scam and other banks, which cheated the gullible people of the state.

The review meeting was also attended by DGP (law and order) P V Naidu, Intelligence Additional DG Arvind Rao, Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Mohanty and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Mahender Reddy.

Left seek probe into Jaswant revelations

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) Left parties today asked the government to order a probe into the 'revelations' pertaining to the Kandahar episode in the memoirs of senior BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, saying the people had the right to know the whole truth. The leaders of the CPI (M), CPI and Forward Bloc also demanded interrogation of the then National Security Adviser Brijesh Mishra regarding his involvement in the episode......

Sandeep, Parth Sharma lose

Chennai, July 18 (UNI) India's Sandeep Jangra and Parth Sharma were defeated in the 14th World Junior Men's Squash Championship in North Palmerston, New Zealand, today. According to a message from Indian team coach Cyrus Poncha, Sandeep and Parth who won their matches in the morning, lost to higher ranked Tom Pashley (Eng) and Simon Rosner (Ger) in the third round. Earlier in the second round matches, they moved ahead in contrasting fashion......

Dravid 2nd, Kumble 8th in latest ICC Test rankings

Dubai, July 18 (UNI) Rahul Dravid hung on to the second spot while Anil Kumble was the lone Indian bowler in the top 10 in the LG ICC Test rankings issued today. Dravid stands behind Australian skipper Ricky Ponting, who continues lead the pack and Kumble, who is at eighth spot, holds a 16 point lead over nearest rival Shane Bond of New Zealand in the bowlers' list.
