Airtel launches wireless home phone service in NE

Aizawl, Jul 18: Leading telecom services provider Airtel would launch Fixed Wireless Phone (FWP) services across the NE region.

The service would be launched in a phased manner, starting with key towns like Guwahati, Jorhat, Bongaigaon and Shillong.

The service would be available in Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Manipur within couple of months.

Talking to UNI here today, Airtel coporate communications in-charge Anjuli Chittaranjan said the new scheme with an innovative home phone service has the advantages of instant availability and mobility within the premises.

The Airtel official added that there is a tremendous scope for fixed line market in Asom and North East as large parts of the region was not covered through fixed line connections due to inadequate infrastructure.

In north eastern states, the users would be benefited as it works on a wireless technology with advanced features, she said.

She said the scheme would bring customers a unique bouquet of value added services including 'Hello Tunes', SMS, Caller ID and all other services that Airtel has pioneered in the last few years.

According to the rate tariff,the scheme provides free 150 minutes (50 pulses, 3 minutes pulse) of calling every month to one Airtel mobile or Airtel Landline, which was given at Rs 1.20 for 3 minutes.

The customers can choose from three European-styled phone models in both desktop and cordless versions.

With the launch of this innovative FWP service in the NE, Airtel would complete its total telecom services portfolio for all segments.

Centre to give incentives to textile-based activities in NE

Aizawl, Jul 18 (UNI) With the aim to promote textile-based activities and empower rural artisans, the Centre has introduced special policy incentives for the traditional handloom handicraft and sericulture industries in the region.
