AI expresses concern over Chhattisgarh massacre

New Delhi, July 18 (UNI) The Amnesty International (AI) today expressed concern over the massacre of 26 people in Chhattisgarh and urged the state Government to investigate the killing of civilians.

''AI expresses grave concern about the continuing violence in the remote region of the state,'' Amnesty International said in a statement here.

It said safety of the common man, including the tribals, was an area of concern in the wake of the violence.

The Human Rights Watchdog also urged the government to amend the security legislation to ensure that the rights to freedom of expression and assembly are respected.

In one of the worst Naxalite attacks, 26 people were killed and 60 injured when armed Maoists raided a relief camp, set ablaze houses and abducted tribals from Erabor village in Chhattisgarh yesterday.
