Kumaraswamy convenes DCs meeting to tackle Chikungunya

Bangalore, July 2 (UNI) With Chikungunya spreading across Karnataka affecting lakhs of people, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has convened a meeting of Deputy Commissioners of all districts on July five to chalk out an effective programme to tackle the disease.

''The State Government is ready to extend all help to fight the disease. The district administration should gear up and augment stocks of medicine, equipment and health personnel to bring the disease under control,'' Special Secretary to the Chief Minister Sudhakara Rao said in a release here today.

The disease was widespread in Tumkur, Bagalkot and Davangere districts, he said.

As a prelude to Wednesday's meeting, Health Secretary Usha Ganesh and Mr Rao conducted a video conference with the DCs yesterday.

Heavy rains slash temperature in the city

Kolkata, Jul 02 (UNI) The city today breathed a sigh of relief following heavy rains for few hours during the day after several weeks' of hot and humid weather prevailed.
