Cocaine case: Court to frame charges against Salil on July 11

Mumbai, June 28:  The special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court will frame charges on July 11 against Provogue Managing Director Salil Chaturvedi and eight others for their alleged involvement in a cocaine case.

NDPS Judge B S Wasekar, who had earlier fixed today for framing of charges, has deferred it to July 11.

Chaturvedi, who was arrested on August two last year following the recovery of three grams of cocaine from his residence in the Western suburbs got bail on September six on the grounds that the police did not have any evidence other the cocaine seized from his house.

Salil was arrested on the basis of the statement given by his former employee, Vishal Manghani, during the investigation period, who was arrested on July 26.

Allywin Sequeira, a former employee of Provogue who was nabbed on March 27 nearly two months after the domestic airport police intercepted a package containing cocaine vials, had booked the packet in Vishal Meghnani's name from his Chennai address.

Two policemen -- Sanjay Shinde and Shantilal Jadhav -- had also been taken into custody for allegedly replacing cocaine with boric powder. However, they were released on bail on October 13 last year.

A common chargesheet had been submitted on September 5 last year.
