Shillong, Jun 27 (UNI) The Congress-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government today assured the House that it will ensure transparency in implementing central and state sponsored schemes in the state.

State Minister in-charge, Community and Rural Development, Irin Lyngdoh said the government had already initiated an enquiry into charges of misappropriation of fund, meant for low-cost housing in certain Blocks in Garo Hills.

To a query, raised by Independent MLA Manas Chaudhuri, Ms Irin told members of the House that the enquiry report from the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, had been received and was under examination.

She said the government had directed state's Anti-Corruption Branch to investigate the "swindling" of public fund.

Further, the Minister in-charge informed that the Gambil Adil Women Organistation, involved in the "misappropriation" of fund, meant for low-cost housing in Garo Hills had returned an amount of Rs 50 lakh to the Deputy Commissioner.

Action had also been taken against two Block Development Officials, she said.
