Senior BJP leader survives a militant attack, PSO injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 10 (UNI) Two days after the BJP announced a reward of Rs one lakh to civilians who will kill a militant, party leader Sofi Yousuf survived an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in south Kashmir today.

''It was a narrow escape for me and my three Personnel Security Officers (PSO),'' Mr Yousuf told UNI.

He said he was on way to Srinagar from Anantnag when militants detonated a powerful IED near Bijbehar patrol pump at 1130 hours.

''It was a close shave as the private vehicle I was travelling in had just passed the area,'' he said, adding the vehicle was damaged and one of the PSO, Shabir Ahmad, was injured.

Mr Yousuf alleged he and other party leaders were not provided proper security by the government.

State can decide on reduction of sales tax: Deora

Chennai, June 10: The UPA Government at the Centre will not insist that Tamil Nadu reduce the sales tax on petrol and diesel in the wake of recent oil price hike, Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said today.''We are not insisting the Tamil Nadu Government reduce the sales tax. BJP asks Centre to lower excise duties on petroleum products

Jammu, June 10 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party today asked the Centre to cut down 'fixed exice duty' component of petrol prices from Rs 13 to Rs ten to neutralise the impact of the recent hike in prices of petroleum products. Party's National Spokesman Prakash Javadekar, addressing mediapersons here said at present retail price of petrol includes 51 percent central and state taxes. Of these taxes, 31 percent are central taxes which of course includes.....
