youth dies in bike accident

Hyderabad, May 22 (UNI) A youth died while his pillion rider was seriously injured when their bike hit an electric pole as the traffic police tried to intercept them for driving without a helmet.

According to witnesses, the youth identified as Sharief and Moshin, both in their twenties, were riding a motorbike near Khairtabad without helmets yesterday. When the traffic police personnel tried to stop them, they sped to escape.

In the process, they hit an electric pole and collapsed.

While Sharief succumbed to injuries, Moshin is battling for life in a corporate hospital in Nampally.

Later, an irate crowd comprising about 150 Majlis Ittehedul Muslimeen (MIM) activists raised slogans against police chief A K Mohanty and demanded his transfer.

They also demanded the state government to pay ex-gratia of Rs five lakh to the next of the kin of the victims.
