Wanted criminal gunned down in encounter

Varanasi, May 22 (UNI) A notorious criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 5,000 on his head was gunned down by the police in an encounter in the Lanka area here today.

Police superintendent (City) Anant Deo told UNI here Buddhesh Mishra was killed by the police in a swift operation.

A pistol, live cartridges and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot.

The criminal hailing from Chakia area of neighbouring Chandauli district was active in both Chandauli and Varanasi.

He had 15 cases against him and was also wanted in connection with five murders, including that of his brother-in-law's brother, Mr Deo said.

Two policemen among 10 injured in Srinagar blast

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) Ten people, including two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel were injured in a militant attack in the down town city this afternoon. Official sources said militants this afternoon hurled a hand grenade towards security forces at Rainawari in the down town city. New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram today moved The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2006 in the Rajya Sabha, seeking to amend a host of taxation laws, including the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the Customs Act, 1962.
