Vijayakant promises to solve constituency problems

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu May 22 (UNI) Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder and newly-elected MLA Vijaykant today visited his Vridhacahalam constituency, near here, and opened the decorated legislature office, apart from inspecting a Government School.

Talking to newspersons after thanking the electorate for his victory at Vridhachalam, he said he would take steps to solve the problems of drinking water, hygiene, education and road development.

If necessary, he would highlight the problems of the constituency to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, he said.

Mr Vijayakanth said he would take steps to fulfil poll promise of solving problems of NLC labourers and the cashewnut export imbroglio.

As public expectations had risen, they would resort to agitations, if the problems of the people were not addressed in right earnest.

He declined to comment when asked whether the people were looking at him as a third force. The decision to contest the Corporation elections would be taken in course of time, he added.

Mr Vijayakanth said he would continue to act in films, as it was his profession. It would also enable him to serve the people with the money he earned through films, he said.

He said had not decided on contesting elections to the Film Council, so far.

Mr Vijaykanth spoke to Government officials and ascertained from RDO officials about the needs and assistance required for the electorate in the constituency.

He also addressed a huge public meeting in the evening.

Shinde launches Nat Prog. of Franchisees under RGGVY

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today launched the National Programme of franchisee under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), entrusted with the management of the rural distribution of power.
