UPA brought stability to nation: PM

New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today virtually patted his back, claiming that the Congress-led UPA Government had provided stability and communal harmony to the nation during its two years in office and declared its commitment to vigorously work for the welfare of every strata of society to build a strong nation.

At a function here this evening to celebrate the completion of two years in office by the UPA Government, he announced that the government would soon launch the National Rainfed Area Development and also develop a 'just and inclusive' education system.

The function was attended by a galaxy of UPA leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, RJD leader Lalu Prasad, Lok Jan Shakti Party leader Ram Vilas Paswan and DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran.

The Prime Minister also utilised the occasion to appeal to the strking medicos to call off their agitation on the reservation issue, saying the government was committed to protecting the rights of all sections of the society.

Dr Singh said India's image in the comity of nations had received a major boost after the UPA came to power. The country had also achieved economic progress under the UPA rule and the government had also been able to strengthen internal security.

He appealed to all political parties to build a strong and capable India while ensuring the rule of law and transparency in the functioning of the government.

TRS chief meets PM on Telangana issue
