UP MLA nabbed in illegal weapons case

Shivpuri, MP, May 22 (UNI) Legislator Ratanlal Ahirwar, who represents Babina in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, was today arrested in this district along with his two sons for being in possession of illegal weapons.

''Jhansi police supplied information that a jeep was heading here in suspicious circumstances. Vehicles were searched along the Shivpuri-Sheopur road. Mr Ahirwar was apprehended along with Rohit and Mohit for possessing three crude revolvers and about half-a-dozen cartridges,'' said Superintendent of Police R S Meena.

The trio were being proceeded against under the Arms Act. Mr Ahirwar was heading towards Kota in Rajasthan. A police team from Jhansi has reached here.

Suicide disrupts metro services

Kolkata, May 22 (UNI) Metro services in the city remained disrupted for more than an hour in the peak evening hours after a youth committed suicide at Mahatma Gandhi station today. Official sources said the incident took place when the youth jumped before a Tollygunge-bound train which was entering the station. As a result, train services on both lines remained suspended causing inconvenience to the home-bound people. Metro services resumed after the youth's body was removed.....

NJMC workers withdraw hunger strike

Barrackpore, May 22 (UNI) National Jute Mill Corporation workers today withdrew their eight-day long hunger strike at Titagarh mill in North 24 Parganas after police intervention. At least five workers, including a woman, resorted to strike demanding resumption of production in Khardah and Kennison jute mills and suspension of VRS from May 15.
